Warren Laird Obituary

Warren E. Laird, 98, the Dean of Miami County Funeral Directors, passed away on Friday, April 12th, 2024, at Dukes Memorial Hospital. He was born in Amboy on March 28, 1926, the son of Eugene and Mildred (Kline) Laird. A man of great faith and integrity, Warren was an active member of the Amboy Friends Church. He held a key role in the building of the church Family Life Center and was a supporter of the community outreach programs held there. Building and remodeling homes was a great joy for Warren, both in Indiana and at his Florida home. His children and grandchildren all have something built by Warren. Warren loved the Boy Scout organization and was an Eagle Scout from Amboy’s Troop 24. As an adult he became the leader of that troop and would guide a number of young men on the Eagle path including his son and three grandsons. He was the recipient of the Silver Beaver award and the Scouters key. He was a 50+ year member of the Converse Masonic Lodge #601 and received the Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Scouter Award. He and his wife Deloris owned and operated the Laird Funeral Home in Amboy after taking over from his parents. In 1991 they merged with the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home in Peru. Warren continued to be active in the funeral profession until his early 90’s. He is survived by his son Dennis E. (Lynn) Laird of Eagle, CO, daughter Jill (Kent) Hoilman of Highland Ranch, CO and son-in-law David Mygrant of Rochester, IN; Grandchildren Jeff (Faith) Mygrant, Jason (Jody) Mygrant, Jennifer (Jeff) Troyer, Colleen Ross, Alex Hoilman and Kimberly (Carmelo) Gallegos; Great-grandchildren Chanse Mygrant, Hope Mygrant, Hannah Troyer, Samuel Troyer, Tori Ross and Ivy Dorrah. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Deloris, daughter Connie Mygrant and sisters Jane Hunter and Patricia Matchett. A funeral service celebrating the life of Warren E. Laird will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 20th, 2024, at Amboy Friends Church, 110 E. Pennsylvania St., Amboy, IN with Pastor Roy Jones and Pastor Richard Martens officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Amboy Friends Church through the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, PO Box 156, Amboy, IN 46911.
