James “Jim” Cecil Hoffman, 79, a longtime resident of Peru, IN, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Kokomo. He was born on September 14, 1944 to Ray and Marie (Rupp) Hoffman in Dayton, OH.
Jim graduated from Colonel White High School in Dayton in 1962, after which he matriculated to Purdue University, where he was a proud member of the saxophone section of the Purdue Marching Band. After graduating with a B.S. in Aero Engineering Science, Jim attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he received his Master’s degree in Engineering. Jim also earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan. He enjoyed a long and successful career as a Marketing Systems Manager at Comdisco, previously one of the nation’s leading computer leasing companies, after starting in business strategy at RCA in New York City.
Besides spending time with his family and friends (and affectionately teasing them), Jim had a passion for travel and was an avid gardener. He was a PADI-certified scuba diver and frequently traveled internationally to dive at some of the Pacific’s most beautiful sites. As a gardener, he was especially proud of his vast tomato garden and loved nothing more than sharing his bounty with loved ones and neighbors. Jim was also a lifelong, devoted Purdue sports fan and never missed a Purdue football or basketball game, attending in person whenever possible.
Jim will be dearly missed by his sister, Jane Locke (Leslie); nieces Marie Cunningham (James) and Anne Locke; and nephew Alan Locke (Sheri). His memory will be cherished by his great-niece Caroline Locke and great-nephew David Locke. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A service celebrating Jim’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru IN with Father Michael Block presiding. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, Monday, March 4, 2024, at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home to the Community Foundation for the Ray E. & Marie Rupp Hoffman Memorial Scholarship Fund.
