James Emerson Horner, 93, of Converse, IN, passed away on March 18, 2024, at Century Villa in Greentown, IN. He is preceded in death by his parents Elvin B. and Marie (Powell) Horner, brothers Donal and Carl (Joyce) Horner, and grandson David Pedersen. Emerson was born December 12, 1930 in Jackson Township, Miami County, IN. He attended Greentown High School 11 years and left to farm. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army 1955-56. On May 23, 1957 he married Barbara J. Hamby of Marion, IN. They were married 66+ years. Five children came from their union, Pam (Dean) Pedersen Frankford, DE; Bruce (Traci) Horner Wabash, IN; Brian (Nan) Horner Greentown, IN; Keith (Mandi) Horner Westfield, IN; and Rex (Leslie) Horner Greentown, IN. From these children came 14 grandchildren and currently 20 great grandchildren. Farming was his life. He drove a school bus for Maconaquah School Corp for 30 years and was a member of the Mennonite Historical Society. In later years, they enjoyed traveling the world. They visited 52 countries on 6 continents. His favorite memories included Alaska, The Great Wall of China, and milking a camel in Djibouti! Emerson was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Peru, IN. A viewing will be at Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, 201 N. Main St., Amboy, IN, Sunday, March 24th from 2-4 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, March 25th at 10:30 am at St. Charles Catholic Chruch, 58 W. 5th St., Peru, with Fr. Michael Block officiating. Burial will be at Converse Cemetery.
